The google engineers are working on new features for G-mail all the time and Google Labs is the interactive online testing facility. Labs allows users to play with these prototype features and provide feedback to Google on their performance. To enable and use some of the potential features, go to your G-mail account and hit the settings link at the top-right hand of the page - under the "settings" heading on the settings page, look for the "Labs" tab. Here you will find a list of cool features that you can enable in your G-mail account.
