GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free program designed for editing and manipulating images. This program is unbelievably similar to Adobe Photoshop - it's based on the same logic of layers, has plenty of filters, offers great control over colour, brushes, gradients and better yet, is free!
GIMP is able so save documents in a range of file types including JPEG, TIFF, EPS, PDS etc. which makes the program a very versitile application.
